Side Panel Sets

As an extension of the tailgate lids I have developed access doors for the 1/4 panels.

Materials

Are the same as the tailgate lids (to streamline my production).

Stainless steel button heads, HDPE plastic panels and laser cut steel coated to match the pattern on the plastic.

Plastic Lids

HPDE plastic panels provide strength, durability and offer a clean look.

Button Head Hardware

What can I say, it looks cool.

Things to Keep in Mind:

There are a variety of profiles needed to match all the years of the 60 body style.

Pictured here are three of the most basic.

If you are interested in a side panel set please be sure to send along a photo of your current panels to ensure a proper match.

Variety of Profiles

Here you can see a side panel made for a 62 with OE seat belt trim and mounts for the OE speakers.

Basic Speaker Mounts

The panel completely replaces the original speaker brackets and the grill mounts to the new metal with captive fasteners.

Back Mount Speakers

Here you can see a side panel made for a 60 without shoulder belts and with flush  back mounts for aftermarket speakers.

Back Mount Speakers

This truck did not have the OE speakers, so the panel is made to accommodate a speaker mounted in back.

Back Mount Speakers

There is a ring mounted to the back so that the user can attach their particular brand of speakers to the ring without modifying the actual panels.

This system works with OE speakers as well.

Vertical Supports

The installation process is very simple, the primary task is to remove the vertical supports on both sides.

This can be done fast and dirty with a reciprocating saw, or you can drill out the spot welds and remove the supports as one clean piece.

If the spot welds are drilled out, this becomes a fully reversible modification, the supports can be bolted back in later. This can also provide a way to keep the evap tube in the same location, the OE support can be bolted in place using the panel hardware.

Side Panel Installation

Vertical Supports: Removed

Once finished, this is the small pile of parts that will have been removed.

The vertical supports from both sides and the plastic clip cups from the OE panels.

Evaporative Assembly

On the passenger side (LHD) the evap tube assembly will need to be relocated to install the panels.

There is a variety of ways to do this, the simplest of which is to install longer fuel lines and relocate the assembly to the back corner of the quarter panel.

Evaporative Assembly: Relocated

This is a photo of a nice relocation job thanks to my friend Kevin Easterly.

The supports have been removed and the tubes are now routed to the back corner, providing a large open storage space.

Evaporative Assembly: Relocated

A closer shot of the same install, the fuel lines have been extended with four pieces of 0.25” (6mm) (about 50” in length) and one 0.375” (10mm) (about 14” in length) fuel line .

The only remaining step is to bolt the new panels in place.

For those not looking for a storage access door, take a look at my fixed replacement panel option as well.
